Caldwell County grad Jase Felker continued his torrid start at the plate with a walk-off single on Sunday for the University of Kentucky.
The Princeton native laced a line drive to the gap on the first pitch he saw in the bottom of the ninth inning for a two-out, RBI single that scored Ryan Waldschmidt from second and secured a three-game sweep of Indiana State with a 7-6 victory in front of 2,128 fans at Kentucky Proud Park in Lexington.
The Wildcats (9-2) erased deficits of 3-0 and 6-4, tying the game on Hunter Gilliam’s solo home run in the eighth inning before Felker’s winner in the ninth — the 14th time UK has scored a walk-off win during Coach Nick Mingione’s tenure.
Felker, who started at third base on Sunday, finished the day 2-for-3 at the plate with a pair of runs batted in.
He is now hitting .727 on the young season.
Felker is 8 for 11 at the plate in five games played. He has a triple, four runs batted in and has drawn eight walks.
Felker is a 2018 Caldwell County High School grad. He was a member of the Tigers’ back-to-back 2nd Region championship teams in 2016 and 2017.
He is a senior at the University of Kentucky.
