Travis Perry has been named the Gatorade Kentucky Boys Basketball Player of the Year.
The Lyon County junior is averaging 32.2 points a game while shooting 53-percent from the field and 45-percent from 3-point range.
Perry enters Thursday’s Sweet 16 basketball game against Newport needing 21 points to pass “King” Kelly Coleman and become Kentucky’s all-time scoring leader with over 4,300 points.
Earlier this year, Perry became the state’s all-time leader for 3-point shots made.
The Gatorade State Player of the Year award was established in 1985 to recognize the nation’s most outstanding high school student-athletes for their athletic excellence, academic achievement, and exemplary character.
Perry joins Madisonville’s Jon Hood in 2009 as Second Region players named Gatorade state player of the year.
