University Heights Academy’s Cole Glover is one of the best runners in Western Kentucky. But when you look closer at this outstanding young athlete, you will find that he is much more than an outstanding member of the UHA Cross Country team and the UHA Track and Field Team.
It is his excellence off the course and the track, especially in the classroom, that has Cole Glover as another Chick-fil-A ‘Triple A.’
Glover is an all-star in the classroom. During his sophomore year, Cole had a GPA of 4.3, which tied him for the top in his class. He earned that GPA while taking classes that included AP Psychology and AP World History.
His academic accomplishments have also earned him a special opportunity. It was recently announced that Cole Glover was one of three students at University Heights Academy that had been selected to attend the Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science for the fall term.
Students selected to attend the Gatton Academy are chosen through a rigorous application process based on academic excellence, interviews, honors, and extracurricular activities.
When asked about being selected to the academy, Glover said “I was ecstatic. The application process had been long and I had been nervous that I may not get accepted. I was super relieved that all of my hopes to go there had been fulfilled.”
He added “I’m hoping to gain all that the Academy advertises. Research opportunities, harder coursework, and a collection of similar students will all hopefully lead to my academic advancement.”
Between his practice schedule and the time and spends on his academic work, there is not a great deal of time for much else. Cole is involved with the Beta Club and the National Honor Society at University Heights Academy and he participates in volunteer opportunities with both organizations when his schedule affords him the opportunity.
One of the things he does enjoy doing is helping other runners to become the best they can me. We asked him what it is about helping other athletes that he enjoyed and he replied “I love running and try to spread information and excitement about it to everyone I can. Running for fun is sort of shunned by most athletes today and I try to make it fun, accessible, and beneficial because it has been all of those things to me.”
“I’ve really tried to push it more recently because I’ve realized that my time on my school track team is coming to a close, and I’m really trying to push a running for fun culture onto those that will be there after I leave. That culture can be my contribution during my shortened stint on the Blazer track team.”
As for his future, Cole noted “I’m not fully decided on what I’m going to be doing for the rest of my life, but my current vision is engineering. Civil, aerospace, and architectural engineering have always been attractive to me.”
One sharp kid, with a very bright future looming in front of him.
