
Sophomore Eli Baker tossed a one-hit shutout and the Lyon County Lyons made quick work of visiting Graves County on Saturday, winning 10-0 in five innings for their third victory in four outings.
The Lyons improved to 6-3 and will be off until Thursday when they face Bloom-Carroll, OH and Dickson County, TN in the Donnie Everett Classic at Clarksville High School. Lyon County will close spring break with a matchup with Gallatin, TN on Friday before welcoming Caldwell County to Eddyville on Monday for a 2nd-Region All-A opener.
A five-run 1st put the Lyons in control, taking advantage of two errors and three walks, highlighted by Turner Hurst’s RBI single.
Peyton Williams drove in the first of two runs in the bottom of the 2nd, and Hurst pushed another across with a ground out for a 7-0 advantage.
Austin Spears’ RBI double added a run in the 3rd, and the Lyons ended things in the 5th on Spears’ second RBI two-bagger and a run-scoring single by Baker.
Landon Curd’s double was the lone hit Baker allowed. He walked one and struck out four to pick up his second win of the season.
Spears was the only Lyon with two hits, with John Bingham, Baker, Williams, Hurst, and Drew Richie each hitting safely once.
Drew Hayden took the loss for Graves County, giving up eight runs, five earned, on four hits with four walks and three strikeouts.
