Wildcats Open Spring Break With Win Over Trojans

4-4-hampton

Trigg County needed only six hits to score 13 times and claim a 13-5 win over Webster County in a late-scheduled game Monday at the Complex.

The Wildcats scored in every inning except the first highlighted by a six-run third inning.

After Webster County opened the scoring with a walk, two steals, and a single by Jace Thurby, the Wildcats answered with two in the second inning. Aaron DeSpain plated a run with a sacrifice fly and Jacob Hunter added an RBI single.

Webster retook the lead in the third inning when a walk and throwing error by Trigg set up a two-run frame. The Trojans were able to consistently get into scoring position thanks to 13 stolen bases. Micah Austin had two hits and five steals.

Three bases-loaded walks and an RBI single by Ayden Joiner pushed the Trigg lead to 8-3.

Joiner and Matthew Leeper added run-scoring hits in the fourth inning for the Wildcats. They, along with DeSpain and Trevor Terrell each drove in a pair of runs.

Hunter Reynolds pitched the first three innings for the Wildcats, allowing one earned run and two hits while striking out four. Chase Hampton pitched the final four innings to get the win. He struck out nine and gave up one earned run.

Six Trojans went to the bump, issuing 12 walks and hitting three batters. Thurby was able to pitch out of trouble in the sixth inning by getting out of a one-out, second and third threat.

Trigg County (5-3) will play four games in western Tennessee this week, starting with two games at Memphis University School Wednesday.
