Before the season started I don’t think anyone could have been disappointed with the idea of Kentucky junior pitcher Ryan Hagenow being named a third-team midseason all-American.

That’s exactly what happened Wednesday but yet it seems that maybe Hagenow deserved even more respect from Perfect Game.

The right-handed pitcher has not allowed a run in 15.1 innings pitched this season for Kentucky, which is up to No. 9 in the national rankings. He is 2-0 with one save and has allowed just four hits all season.

The Knoxville native has struck out 23 batters and walked just five. Opponents are hitting .078 in his 11 appearances.

It’s just part of what has already been an amazing season for Kentucky which is now 18-1 at Kentucky Proud Park this season and had 3,274 fans on hand Tuesday when it beat Dayton 13-6.

Kentucky (23-6) opens a series at Georgia tonight and has won 22 of its last 23 games and last weekend gave coach Nick Mingione his 200th win at UK. The Cats are 8-1 in SEC play with series wins over Mississippi State, Alabama and Missouri.

Here are a few other notes about the Cats going into the Georgia series:

—  The Cats stole three bases against Dayton and now are 57-of-72 on the season.

— First baseman Hunter Gilliam has a 22-game hitting streak and has reached base safely in all 28 games he’s played. The streak is the second-longest at UK since 2005, one behind Gunnar McNeill’s 23-game streak in 2016.

— Catcher Devin Burkes has reached safely in 18 consecutive games.

— Infielder Emilien Pitre  has 10 multi-RBI games this season.

— Outfielder Nolan McCarthy has three multi-RBI games this season and five multi-hit games.

— Outfielder Jackson Gray has reached base safely in 20 consecutive games and has been hit by 16 pitches this season.

— Infielder Grant Smith has started all 145 games of his collegiate career and has reached base safely in 17 straight games.
