Lyon County junior standout Travis Perry is still not certain when he will officially cut his lot of potential college choices to a specific number. He said coaches are reaching out trying to get him on campus a bit more as he concentrates on growling connections and relationships with all the coaches he can.
“I kind of have some things I think will be best for me figured out. There are definitely some things I like to key on when I go somewhere for a visit,” said Perry, Kentucky’s all-time leading scorer.
He doesn’t have to worry about figuring out a lot when he’s playing with Lyon because two of his teammates — Brady Shoulders and Jack Reddick — have been playing with him since they were in second grade. And it wasn’t just basketball they played.
“We played pretty much every sport. We played basketball, baseball, football,” Perry said. “A couple of times Jack caddied for me and pushed my (golf cart) when Dad was a little mad at me. We have always been a trio.”
They are a dynamic trio on the basketball court and have helped Lyon win two straight 2nd Region titles. They will also help make Lyon one of the top teams in the state going into next season.
Perry averaged 31.6 points per game last season while Shoulders contributed 17.9 points per game and Reddick 18.8. Perry had 175 3-pointers in 37 games but Reddick had 74 and Shoulders 52.
The three were “pretty good” in baseball and won several tournaments.
“But rainouts and waiting around kind of burned us out on baseball,” Perry said.
They played basketball together, added a few players and won several tournaments.
“I think we won three straight state tournaments and then started going national,” Perry said. “Our sixth grade year we were 96-1 and won USA nationals. We did not lose a tournament all year. They made us realize we wanted to play basketball. We were playing every weekend from Dallas to Charlotte to St. Louis.”
The three are all playing golf now. Perry qualified for the state tourney last year and has played on the high school team the last two years. He convinced Shoulders and Reddick to play last season and hopes they will again as seniors.
“If they do play again, we could have a pretty solid (golf) team,” Perry said. “They have not been playing quite as long as me. They pretty much started last year but they are getting pretty good, pretty fast.”

They need to go back to Caldwell or Marshall.
Why?
Schmidt is right. Because it is disgusting how the coach moved around looking for a team to hold his son back. Also it wasn’t that hard to get the scoring record when your daddy lets you play every single minute of every game no matter what the score is since freakin 7th grade, Oh Lyons up by 30!!! Stay in Perry you gotta get that scoring record!!!
It’s sad when our country has came to putting young men down who have worked hard all their life and been successful.
Shame on you, I bet if they where playing in your county you would not say that.
