
One night after rallying from an 11-2 deficit for a 16-12 win over Crittenden County, Caldwell County saw one get away Friday at Union County.
The Tigers’ seven-game winning streak came to an end, as the homestanding Braves rallied from a 6-1 hole to deal Caldwell a 7-6 setback.
Union (5-7) scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to complete the comeback.
Landon Tapp was called safe on a play at the plate when Korben Lucas grounded to shortstop with one out in the inning.
A three-run fifth inning had gotten the Braves within 6-5.
Hunter Newsom had a solo home run for Caldwell (10-5) as the Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.
Luke Parker singled home two runs in the third to extend Caldwell’s lead to 4-1.
Brady Holeman knocked in two more runs with a single in the fourth to put the Tigers up 6-1.
It was Union’s second close win over Caldwell this season. The Braves won 9-7 in eight innings in Princeton earlier this year.
Landon Jones was 3-for-5 with four runs batted in to lead the Union offense.
Tapp (1-0) was the winning pitcher, blanking the Tigers over the final 3.1 innings on three base hits. He struck out three and walked none.
For Caldwell, Ben Goodaker went 3-for-3 at the plate. Ari Wells and Cole Slone were each 2-for-3 while Carter Whittington went 2-for-5.
Goodaker (5-1) pitched the seventh inning and suffered his first loss of the season.
Caldwell is on the road again Saturday afternoon when it travels to Carlisle County.
