Community Christian scored in every inning but one as the Lady Warriors powered their way past the Hopkinsville Lady Tigers 11-5 Saturday in Paducah. The win was the second straight for Community Christian and was their highest run total of the season.
The Lady Warriors plated at least one run in every inning but the bottom of the fifth. Community Christian put the game away with four runs in the bottom of the fourth and three runs in the bottom of the sixth, breaking open a game that had been tied at 4-4.
Hopkinsville led briefly, holding a 1-0 advantage after one-half inning. After loading the bases to start the game, the Lady Tigers scored the game’s first run on a sac fly from Bailee Ladson.
After falling behind 3-1, the Lady Tigers pulled back even with Community Christian in the top of the third when Shaniyah Straight connected for a two-run double in the top of the third.
Community Christian took a brief 4-3 lead in the bottom of the third, only to see Hoptown battle back to tie it at 4-4 in the top of the fourth when Jakayla Grubbs pushed a run across the plate with a sac fly.
Shaniya Straight finished the day 2-4 with a double and two RBIs. Jakayla Grubbs was also 2-4 with an RBI and a run scored. The Lady Tigers finished the game with their five runs coming on eight hits, while Community Christian scored 11 runs on 12 base hits.
Straight was tagged with the loss in the circle. She gave up 11 runs, but only six of them were earned as the Lady Tigers were charged with five errors in the game.
The Lady Tigers are set to be back in action Monday when they host University Heights.
