Caldwell County’s 1998 state runner-up softball team returned to the diamond Saturday at Lady Tiger Field.

A reception was held before the game against Ballard Memorial, then the 1998 Lady Tigers in attendance were introduced on the field prior to the starting lineups being announced.

Former Lady Tiger great Abby Scott Hodge threw out the first pitch.

Other players from the state runner-up team in attendance were Jennifer Jackson Gibson, Emily Martin Freeman, Christy Brasher Courtney, A.J. Fraliex Tabor, Steffy Call Renfrow and Cassie Driskill.

Assistant coach Donnie Scott was also there.

Representing the late Al Giordano, who coached the Caldwell softball team from 1992-2003, were his wife, Fonciene Giordano, and daughters Joni Giordano and Jill Giordano.

The 1998 Lady Tigers went 29-9 and reached the championship round of the state tournament at Skyview Park in Louisville. Caldwell’s two losses in the double-elimination tourney were both to champion Owensboro Catholic.

Caldwell defeated Christian County 3-2 to win the 2nd Region championship at the Princeton City-County Park that season. That set the stage for the Lady Tigers to win three regional titles in five years, with championships in 2000 and 2002 as well.

To further honor the 1998 squad, this year’s Lady Tiger team defeated Ballard Memorial 2-0 in Saturday’s matchup.
