It was just one of those nights for Heritage Christian pitching Tuesday evening. Livingston Central sent 21 batters to the plate in the bottom of the first inning as the Cardinals rolled to a 20-3 three inning win over the Warriors in Smithland.
Pitching struggles were part of the problem for Heritage in that long, long first inning. The Warriors gave up ten walks and one hit batter in the inning that saw Livingston Central plate 16 runs.
Heritage had taken the early lead in the game, scoring two runs in the top of the first. Tra Fowler doubled to lead off the game and then scored on a triple from Bradley Boyd to give HCA a 1-0 lead. Boyd would later scored on a passed ball to make it 2-0.
After the ceiling fell in on the Warriors in the bottom of the inning, they came back to score a run in the top of the second, Talan Waddlington was hit by a pitch, advanced to third on a double from Collin Outland and then scored on a ground out by Tra Fowler to make it 16-3.
Livingston Central then scored four more runs in the bottom of the second to move the lead out to 20-3. The Cardinals then blanked the Warriors in the top of the third to close out the game.
The Cardinals scored their 20 runs on just nine hits.
Heritage Christian had five hits in the game. Tra Fowler, Bradley Boyd, Tycen Wells, Collin Outland, and Landin Gibson had the hits for the Warriors. Fowler and Boyd were credited with RBIs.
Alden Fugate had a big night at the plate for the Cardinals, going 2-2 with a double, a triple, three RBIs, and three runs scored.
Both pitching staffs had control issues during the game. HCA and Livingston Central were each charged with 11 walks.
