The Crittenden County Rockets were apparently in a very generous mood Tuesday evening. The Rockets were charged with eight errors and the Lyon County Lyons took full advantage on the way to a 13-6 win in Marion. The Lyons scored their 13 runs on just nine hits.
The Lyons also had their issues in the field as they were charged with four errors of their own.
Lyon County broke on top in the game with two runs in the top of the second. After two walks to start the inning, the Lyons scored one run on a wild pitch and a second run on a balk. John Bingham doubled in the third inning and then scored on a Rocket error to extend the lead to 3-0.
The bottom of the third inning saw the Lyons return the favor with an error leading to a Crittenden County run that cut the lead to 3-1.
Another Rocket error allowed the Lyons to score a run in the fourth to make it 4-1. Two more errors and a walk opened the door for Lyon County to score three runs in the fifth to extend the lead to 7-1. Brady Belt had the big hit in the inning with an RBI double.
An error and a walk set up the Lyons for three more runs in the sixth. Peyton Williams and Brady Belt had RBI doubles in the inning.
Two Lyon County fielding miscues in the bottom half of the inning helped the Rockets to score five runs and get within striking distance at 10-6.
The Lyons would turn back the threat with three runs of their own in the top of the seventh to seal the win. Austin Spears had an RBI single and John Bingham connected for an RBI double during the inning.
Brady Belt led the Lyons going 2-3 with two doubles, three RBIs, and two runs scored. John Bingham was 2-4 with two doubles, an RBI, and three runs scored.
Eli Baker picked up the win on the mound for the Lyons. Baker went five innings, giving up one unearned run on one hit, striking out eight and walking just one.
Lyon County improves to 10-5, while Crittenden County drops to 6-7.
