Blazers Set New Records at Hoptown Classic

With two school records and several personal bests in tow, the University Heights Academy boys’ track and field team finished in second place at the Hoptown Classic Saturday at the Stadium of Champions.

The Blazers scored 100 points to finish six points ahead of third-place Caldwell County. Hopkinsville won with 157 points.

FIELD EVENTS

Griffin McCoy set another school record in the triple jump. His leap of 42 feet, 7 inches won by over three feet, and is one of the best jumps in Kentucky Class 1A this season. The sophomore owns the eight longest triple jumps in school history and broke his old mark by over two feet.

Aaron Onate was ninth in the shot put with a personal best of 36-02.25 and 26th in the discus at 68-07.

Tobias Duncan was 22nd in the shot put with a toss of 30-08.25 and 23rd in the discus throw at 69-10.

SPRINTS

McCoy also finished second in the 200-meter dash in a season-low 23.75 seconds.

Clayton Lester was third in the 200-meter dash in 23.81 seconds and fifth in the 100-meter dash in 11.80 seconds.

Cameron Brown was second in the 400-meter run with a personal best time of 51.15 seconds and third in the 800-meter run in 2:18.96.

Trey Wallace was third in the 400 meters in 53.51 (PR) and was sixth in the 200-meter dash in 24.48 seconds.

MIDDLE DISTANCE

Cole Glover won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:07.48 – the sixth fastest in school history. He also won the 1600 meters in 4:40.03.

Hugh Sisk was 14th in the 1600-meter run in 5:45.90.

Jude Finch was ninth in the 3200-meter run in 14:14.04 and was 20th in the 1600 meters in 6:11.23.

HURDLES

Logan Miller was second in the 110-meter hurdles with a personal best of 19.01 seconds and fourth in the 300-meter hurdles in 52.1 seconds.

RELAYS

The 800-meter relay team of Brown, Lester, McCoy, and Wallace took first place comfortably in a new school record time of 1:34.84, beating their three-week-old mark by over 90 seconds.

The same group finished second in the 1600-meter relay in 3:39.64.
