Hoptown Guys Cruise to Classic Title

The Hopkinsville boys’ track and field team parlayed a strong day on the track into a first-place finish at its own Hopkinsville Classic Saturday at the Stadium of Champions.

The Tigers scored 157 points to outdistance second-place University Heights Academy by 57 points in the 10-team event.

SPRINTS

William Alston won the 100-meter dash in 11.31 seconds. He also edged UHA’s Cameron Brown by .15 seconds to win the 400 meters in 51 seconds flat. His times in the 100 and 400 meters were personal bests.

Floyd Kay was second in the 100 meters in a personal best time of 11.34 seconds and fifth in the 400-meter dash in 56.51 seconds (PR).

Kentrell Adams was sixth in the 400-meters in 57.50 seconds.

Treston Kay was seventh in the 200-meter dash in 24.5 seconds (PR).

Gabe Harton was 12th in the 100-meter dash in a personal best time of 12.30 seconds.

James Bradley was 14th in the 400 meters in 1:02.04 (PR).

Kristin Johnson won the 200-meter dash in a personal best time of 23.66 seconds.

MIDDLE DISTANCE

DeAvery Ramey took second place in the 800-meter run in 2:15.15 and was seventh in the 1600 meters in 5:26.34 (PR).

LaMareon Jeffers was fourth in the 800-meter run in 2:24.80 and eighth in the 1600 meters in 5:30.72 (PR).

Carlo Jones was sixth in the 800-meter run in 2:29.73 and ninth in the 1600 meters in 5:30.78 (PR).

Tyson Cavinder was sixth in the 1600-meter run with a personal best time of 5:25.63 and was seventh in the 800-meter run in 2:31.51.

Willie Ennels was 11th in the 800-meter run in 2:37.10.

Victor Hatcher was 11th in the 3200-meter run in 15:49.36.

Camden Dennis was 12th in the 800-meter run in 2:37.50.

HURDLES

Ian Rossario Alicea won both the 110 and 300-meter hurdles. He completed 110 in a personal-best time of 17.35 seconds and the 300 in 47.09 seconds.

Keyshun Teal was sixth in the 110-meter hurdles in 20.53 seconds.

Jaylon Davis was sixth in the 300-meter hurdles in 53.95.

RELAYS

The 3200-meter relay team of Jeffers, Ramey, Adams, and Harton won with a season-best time of 9:10.27.

Another win came in the 400-meter relay where the Kays, Johnson, and Alston ran a season-best 45.02 seconds.

A third win came in the 1600-meter relay where Rossario Alicea, Adams, Floyd Kay, and Alston each ran a lap in 3:39.03 to edge UHA by .61 seconds.

The 800-meter relay team of Johnson, Bailey, Bennett, and Kanu was fourth in 1:40.79.

FIELD EVENTS

Devin Coleman was 12th in the shot put with a season-best toss of 34-09.25 and was 12 in the discus with a personal best of 98 feet, 7 inches.

Davian Simon was sixth in the discus throw at 110-10 and was 20th in the shot put at 31 feet, 1 inch.

Alden Marshall was 15th in the discus throw at 89-07 and was 24th in the shot put at 29 feet, 10 inches.

Sam Kanu joined the six feet club at Hopkinsville High, which was good for second place in the high jump.

Michael Charles was fourth in the long jump with a personal best of 18-03.

Jayden Bennett was fifth in the long jump at 18-0.25.

Keyshun Teal was seventh in the triple jump with a personal best of 35-03.50 and was ninth in the long jump at 16-11.

Treston Kay was second in the triple jump at 39 feet.

Elijah Reid was fourth in the triple jump at 37-0.25.

LaTravean Sharber was eighth in the triple jump at 34-00.25.
