
The Heritage Christian Academy softball team ended a four-game skid with a 12-9 victory over Dawson Springs on Thursday, highlighted by a win in the circle and three RBI from Kennedy Hughes.
Looking for a first win since 2019, Dawson Springs used RBI singles by Macy Drennan and Natalee Oldham to take a 2-0 lead before Eryn Camplin doubled the advantage with a run-scoring double.
The Lady Warriors got a run back in each of their next two at-bats ahead of a seven-run 3rd. After a triple by Hughes, Layton Weeks and Rachel Robson singled in runs, and Kailyn Stanley smacked a two-run double for a 9-4 HCA advantage.
Dawson Springs’ Ava Ward drove in a run, and Rachael Young’s triple scored two to cut the deficit to two runs in the 4th. But HCA’s Hughes stayed hot with a two-run double in the bottom of the frame for an 11-7 Lady Warrior lead.
Young capped a three-hit night with an RBI triple, and Drennan followed with an RBI single to pull Dawson Springs within two runs. But HCA added the final run on a double by Hughes, and she finished off a complete-game victory with a 1-2-3 inning in the top of the 7th.
Hughes allowed eight earned runs on 12 hits with three strikeouts to earn her second win in the circle. Madison Warren finished with two hits for the Lady Warriors, and Robson, Stanley, and Weeks each drove in a run.
Gracelyn Haynes took the loss for Dawson Springs, allowing ten earned runs on ten hits with eight walks and three strikeouts. Young was three for four with a pair of RBI, Drennan finished with three hits, Ward had two, and Camplin had two hits and two RBI.
Heritage Christian returns to the field on Tuesday when the Lady Warriors host Hopkinsville.
Dawson Springs will be on the road at Todd County Central on Friday.
