Coming into Thursday, the Union County Bravettes had scored in double-figures in six of its 12 wins. They added two more Thursday with a doubleheader sweep of the Lyon County Lady Lyons.
Union won the opener 12-2 and outslugged Lyon 19-8 in the nightcap.
In the opener, Union County took advantage of six hits, six walks issued, and six Lyon Count errors to get the five-inning win. Lyon didn’t allow an earned run in the contest.
Freshman Audrey Staley had two hits for the Bravettes and sophomore Sydney Thomas had a double and three RBI.
The Lady Lyons were limited to four singles by Peyton Jenkins, who struck out two and walked none.
In the second game, Union County hit three home runs as part of a 20-hit night to notch the 11-run win.
After two scoreless innings, Ava Arnett keyed a four-run third inning with a two-run shot to center field for her first tater of the season.
Union added three more runs in the fourth on Sydney Thomas’ fifth home run of the season. This came after a Jenkins RBI double that put the Bravettes up 7-0. Thomas ended the night 5-for-5 with 4 RBI and a triple shy of the cycle.
Lyon answered with five runs in the fourth. Sophomore Destiny Cayce led off with a homer to left. Freshman Emma Brasher added an RBI double and eighth-grader Olivia Moore plated two more with a single.
Union took control with a nine-run sixth inning highlighted by freshman Miley Mosley’s first homer of the season.
Staley and Jenkins each had four hits and combined to drive in seven runs at the top of the Bravette lineup. Mosley added three hits and two RBI.
Cayce finished with three hits and two RBI for Lyon County. She was also tagged with the loss in the circle, pressed into duty when Lilly Perry was injured toward the end of the opening game. Only half of the runs Cayce allowed were earned as Lyon County committed six errors for the second straight game.
Piper Cotham had two hits, including a triple, and Courtney Collins had a hit and two RBIs.
Lyon County is scheduled to host Murray Friday and play in the Muhlenberg County Lady Mustang Stampede Saturday.
