Amari Waddy thanked his coaches for sticking with him during the failures in his track and field career at Fort Campbell High School. Those failures turned to success during a breakout junior season that saw him win the region title in the triple jump and place third in the high jump. A week later, Waddy placed fourth at the Class 1A state meet in the high jump topping six feet.
His rise on the track led Waddy to sign with Baldwin Wallace University Friday to continue his track and field career.
It comes during a bittersweet season for Waddy, who has yet to compete due to a knee injury. He will have surgery next week and his status for region and state is doubtful. But Waddy hasn’t ruled himself out just yet.
Waddy’s best height at 6 feet, 2 inches in the high jump ranks as the 14th best in the storied history of the Fort Campbell track and field program. His triple jump best ranks in the top 50 but that was a mark he was hoping to crack the top 20 in this year.
Baldwin Wallace University is a Division III school in Ohio and competes in the Ohio Athletic Conference.
