A tough day Saturday for the Christian County Colonels capped out with a 6-2 home-field loss to the Clarksville Wildcats. The loss came on the heels of a loss to regional rival Lyon County earlier in the day.
The game was a scoreless pitchers’ duel until the top of the fourth when the Wildcats scored four times to take a lead they would not give back. Christian County starting pitcher Elijah Underhill had some control struggles as the inning got underway, walking the first three batters of the inning. The Wildcats took advantage, scoring four runs off back-to-back singles following the walks.
A hit batter in the top of the fifth set the stage for a two-run shot to center for the Wildcats, pushing the lead out to 6-0.
The Colonels got two runs back in the bottom of the fifth, using a walk, a double, an error, and a sac fly to trim the lead to 6-2. But that would be the last of a rally for the game.
Christian County got two runners on with two outs in the sixth and loaded the bases with two outs in the seventh, but could not get a big hit to make a last charge at the Wildcats.
Elijah Underhill was 2-4 for the Colonels at the plate with a double and a run scored. The Colonels, who were outhit 8 to 4, also got hits from Carter Sholar and Bobby Irving.
Underhill took the loss on the mound. He went five innings, giving up six runs on eight hits, striking out nine and walking five.
