A win and a pair of tough losses for the Lyon County Lady Lyons Saturday. Lyon County was on the road taking part in the Muhlenberg County Lady Mustang Stampede.

The Lady Lyons began their day against the Bowling Green Lady Purples. The Lady Lyons settled this one quickly taking a 15-0 three-inning win.

The Lady Lyons had seven hits and were the recipients of 8 walks from Lady Purples’ pitching as they scored in all three at-bats. The Lady Lyons scored four in the first, six in the second, and closed out the game with five runs in the bottom of the third to get to the 15-run rule.

Jenna Coursey and Destiny Cayce had two hits each to lead Lyon County. Coursey was 2-3 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Cayce also had two RBIs. Courtney Collins was 1-2 with a home run, two RBIs, and a run scored.

In the circle, Lilly Perry and Destiny Cayce combined to go three innings, giving up just one hit, striking out one, and walking one.

The second game of the event saw the Lady Lyons fall behind, rally twice, and come up just short in a 10-9 loss to Whitesville Trinity. The Lady Lyons had the game-tying run on second base when it came to an end.

The Lady Raiders used three walks and a hit batter to plate three runs in the top of the first. Another walk and a Lyon County error helped Trinity score two more in the second to make it 5-0. A Lady Lyon error led directly to a run in the top of the 3rd as the lead grew to 6-0 and it seemed like the Lady Raiders had things in hand.

Step up Courtney Collins. After a single, an error, and a hit batter, Collins cranked a 3-run homer over the left field fence to cap the rally and make it 6-4 after the third inning. An RBI single from Olivia Moore brought it to within 6-5 in the fourth.

Back-to-back doubles to open the inning and a two-run homer later in the top of the 5th got Trinity four more runs and the lead was back out to 10-5.

With the time limit winding down on the game, the Lady Lyons made one last charge in the bottom of the 5th, which would turn out to be the final inning. The Lady Lyons strung together five singles with two outs to score four runs and cut the lead to 10-9 and leave the tying runner on second base.

But a ground out would end the rally and the game for the Lady Lyons.

Trinity had 11 hits in the game, while Lyon County had 10. Fielding issues were a problem for the Lady Lyons, as they were charged with four errors.

Olivia Moore was 2-3 with two RBIs. Jenna Coursey finished 2-3 with a double and two runs scored. Courtney Collins was 1-3 with the home run and 3 RBIs.

The final game of the day found the Lady Lyons battling the Owensboro Lady Red Devils.

Owensboro jumped out to a 10-0 lead just an inning and a half into the game and rode that out to a 14-8 win. The Lady Red Devils rapped out six hits to score four runs in the first inning. Owensboro then wound up their offense for six more hits in the second to score six more runs and blow the lead out to 10-0.

Lyon County got on the board in the bottom of the second on a double from Brenna Breitrick to make it 10-1. Courtney Collins blasted a two-run homer in the bottom of the third and Destiny Cayce drove in a run with an RBI single to trim the lead to 10-4.

Any thoughts of a comeback were put to an abrupt end in the top of the fourth as Owensboro scored four more runs on four more hits to extend the lead back out to 10 runs at 14-4.

Lyon County would get the four runs back in the bottom of the inning but the time limit then ended the game with Owensboro holding the six-run lead.

Courtney Collins led the Lady Lyons at the plate, going 2-3 with a home run, three RBIs, and two runs scored. Olivia Moore was 2-3 with two RBIs. Destiny Cayce ended the game 2-3 with an RBI.
