It was another red-letter day at the park for Russellville High School freshman Chloe Penrod, who homered for the second straight night Tuesday to lead her Panther softball squad to a 6-0 win over Todd County Central.

Penrod, who goes by “Red,” hit her first homer of the season Monday in a victory over University Heights Academy. Then, on Tuesday, she lifted off again with a two-run shot in the seventh to lead the offensive charge. Penrod finished 2-for-4 with two runs, the homer, a double, and four RBI.

Winners of four straight, Rusellville (14-9) also got a three-hit shutout from A’miyah Collier, who overcame five walks by striking out eight and limiting the Rebels to three hits. Abigail McPherson had one of the three hits on a leadoff double in the bottom of the sixth, but she was stranded at third base.

McPherson (11-10) also started the game in the pitching circle and threw all seven innings in defeat. She struck out five but allowed three walks, 10 hits, and six runs (four earned) in seven innings. Karli Herrera and Addison Woodall had the other two TCCHS hits in the loss.

Todd County Central (13-12) plays again at 5:30 p.m. at UHA. The Blazers (1-7) have played 17 less games than the Rebels. This will be the first of two showdowns between these teams this season, with the other coming May 9 in Elkton.
