After two brutal losses to begin the week, the Trigg County Lady Wildcats responded Wednesday with a 10-5 win over Crittenden County at the Complex.
The game was moved up a day to avoid the rain in Thursday’s weather forecast.
The game was a stark contrast to the March 30 game in Marion that finished in a 1-0 Trigg win.
The mistakes that plagued Trigg County in a 20-5 loss to Christian County Monday and a 6-5 loss in 10 innings to Lyon County Tuesday did not resurface for the Lady Wildcats in Wednesday’s win.
The Lady Wildcats overcame deficits of 2-0 and 4-3 to hang some crooked numbers on the scoreboard.
However, Hannah Jent plated two runs in the opening frame on a single to left field. Eliot Evans (error) and Jaycee Champion (single) scored on the play.
Trigg answered with two runs in the home half of the first. Veyda Grinols doubled and scored on a Lady Rocket error. Rylee Hendricks made it to third and scored on an Emma West ground out.
Hendricks doubled in the second with two outs and scored on a Kady Fuller single to give the Lady Wildcats a 3-2 lead.
An RBI double by Champion in the third tied the game, and Anna Boone followed with a run-scoring single to give Crittenden its last lead.
The Lady Wildcats scored five runs with two outs in the third to take control of the game. Grinols had a two-run single, Hendricks followed with an RBI single, and Fuller scored two more with a single to center.
Hendricks finished with three hits and two RBI and upped her season average to .507, while Grinols and Fuller each had a pair of hits and drove in three runs.
Tember Oliver picked up two hits at the plate and the win in the circle. She allowed three earned runs, didn’t walk a batter, and struck out five in improving to 7-5.
Champion had three hits for the Lady Rockets (8-11) with Evans, Boone, and Jent each adding a pair of singles.
The season sweep over Crittenden was the first for Trigg since 2005.
Trigg County (11-11) is scheduled to play at Livingston Central Friday.
