
Six runs over the final two frames gave visiting Hopkinsville a 13-11 come-from-behind softball victory over Heritage Christian Academy on Tuesday.
The Lady Tigers overcame seven errors to improve to 5-8 ahead of a visit from Clarksville Christian on Thursday. The Lady Warriors slipped to 2-5 against KHSAA teams and will head to Christian Fellowship on Thursday.
Trailing 3-0 with two outs in the bottom of the 2nd, Heritage erupted for eight runs to take control. Kylynn Tudor singled to score a pair before runs came in on two errors and a couple of bases-loaded walks.
Hopkinsville got two runs back in the top of the 4th on Daijha Owen Morand’s RBI triple and a run-scoring single by Shaniyah Straight. Then in the 5th, the Lady Tigers cut the margin to a run on Jakayla Grubbs’ two-run inside-the-park home run.
After HCA restored a three-run advantage in the bottom of the 5th, Hoptown again cut the lead to a run on an RBI triple by Straight and a single to drive in a run by Bailee Ladson.
A run on a passed ball with two outs in the bottom of the 6th put HCA in front 11-9, but it would be all Hopkinsville from there. In their final at-bat, the Lady Tigers tied the game when Taylor Joachim drove in two runs with a double and took the lead for the first time since the second inning on Ruby Duskey’s decisive two-run double.
Straight finished a complete game win with a 1-2-3 7th, allowing 11 unearned runs on six hits with six walks and half a dozen strikeouts.
For the Lady Tigers, Grubbs was four for five with a pair of RBI, and Owen Morand and Straight each had three hits and two RBI. Joachim. Ladson, and Duskey each hit safely twice and drove in two runs.
Kennedy Hughes took the loss for the Lady Warriors, surrendering eight earned runs on 17 hits with two walks and four strikeouts.
