The Christian County Colonels now have wins over arguably the two best teams in the 1st Region in just a ten-day window. Elijah Underhill struck out 15 as the Colonels picked up a 4-2 road win at Paducah Tilghman Friday night.
Underhill’s only bump in the road came in the bottom of the fifth inning when two Christian County errors and a walk opened the door for the Blue Tornado to score two runs, cutting the Colonels’ 4-0 lead in half at 4-2. He would strike out the final two batters of the inning to end the comeback threat.
Underhill would strike out six batters over the final two innings allowing only one runner to reach base on a one-out single in the bottom of the seventh.
Christian County hit the Blue Tornado before their fans could sit down with their popcorn and coke to start the game. Elijah Underhill singled to get things started. Carter Sholar then took the third pitch he saw and sent it back over the left field fence to put the Colonels up 2-0. Blake Boehman added an RBI double to give Christian County a 3-0 lead just a half inning into the game.
The Colonels added a run in the top of the third when Aiden Lewis scored on a sacrifice from Preston Phan to extend the lead to 4-0.
Christian County scored its four runs on eight hits. Aiden Lewis was 2-3 with a run scored. Six other Colonel batters had one hit each.
Underhill went all seven innings on the mound, giving up the two runs, neither of them earned, on four hits, striking out 15 while walking two.
Christian County improves to 14-10 with the win, which was their seventh in their last nine games.
