Two-run innings in the third, fifth and sixth were enough to carry Caldwell County to a 6-3 win over Muhlenberg County in softball action Monday in Princeton.
A.J. Hollowell and Harper Holeman were each 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Lady Tiger, who won for the fourth time in five games.
Caldwell (12-9) trailed 1-0 early before coming back to pick up the win.
Alexis Wood (10-7) struck out seven and walked two while allowing three earned runs on 10 base hits in the pitching circle.
Muhlenberg (14-9) put up the game’s first run in the top of the third, but Holeman singled home two runs in the bottom of the inning to put Caldwell up 2-1.
Presley McKinney singled home a run in the fifth inning, then Brylee Butts beat the throw to the plate when the ball got away at third base to make it 4-1.
Ava Carver homered just inside the left-field foul pole in the top of the sixth inning to draw the Lady Mustangs within 4-3.
But Caldwell put together a two-out rally in the bottom of the sixth to get those two runs back. Singles by Hollowell and Adley Lewis were followed by a two-run double to right-center by Alicia Stanley to give the Lady Tigers a 6-3 lead.
Muhlenberg got a two-out single in the top of the seventh, but Wood struck out the next hitter to end the game.
Stanley was 2-for-3 at the plate for Caldwell.
Joshlynn Noe went 3-for-4 to lead Muhlenberg. Macy Cotton was 2-for-3 with a double.
Caldwell’s girls will play at home again on Tuesday, hosting Trigg County in a game that was added late to the schedule.
