The Livingston Central Lady Cardinals will defend its district softball title as the top seed in the postseason tournament that begins on May 15.

The Lady Cardinals held off Trigg County 10-7 Wednesday in Cadiz, getting a boost from the bottom of its lineup.

Aubrey Leahy went 3-for-3 with two doubles and her first career home run. The homer was important as it provided the Lady Cardinals with insurance runs they would need.

Livingston scored six runs in the final two innings to break a 4-4 tie. Leahy keyed a three-run sixth inning with a one-out double. Victoria Joiner followed with an RBI single to break the tie. After Joiner advanced and scored on a wild pitch, Emersyn Ramage doubled in a run for a 7-4 lead.

Trigg got a run back in the sixth inning on an RBI single by MaKenna Hendricks. Leahy saved another run for Livingston when she snagged a line drive and doubled off a Trigg runner at second base to end the inning.

With two outs in the seventh, Leahy launched her homer over the fence in center field. Joiner followed with a double and scored on a Maddie Norton single. Joiner finished 4-for-5 and Norton added two hits and two RBI.

Norton (6-1) got the win in the circle in relief with one earned run in 2.1 innings of work. She spelled Hadley Hargrove who pitched the first 4.2 innings and left with the game tied at 4-4.

Maddie Smith had three hits for the Lady Wildcats with Livia Breckel driving in two runs with a single. Rylee Hendricks had two hits, including a double, and Avery Wade had two hits and two RBI.

Wade (3-7) took the loss in the circle but only allowed two earned runs in seven innings of work. She struck out six and didn’t walk a batter.

Even though the teams have a return meeting next week in Smithland, Livingston Central wrapped up the No. 1 seed in the district tournament. The Lady Cardinals are 5-0. Trigg County hosts Lyon County Thursday. Trigg is 2-2 in district play, while Lyon County is 2-3. Crittenden County will be the No. 4 seed in the district tourney.
