Caldwell’s Girls Can’t Get Last Out in 6-5 Loss at Graves

The Caldwell County Lady Tigers were one out away on Thursday from their third-straight win and sixth victory in their last seven games.

However, Graves County got a two-out single from Taylor Woods to extend the game.

Freshman Brooklyn Cole then drove a 1-0 pitch over the fence in left field, giving the Lady Eagles a walk-off 6-5 win in Mayfield.

Caldwell never trailed in the contest until the last play of the game.

Laney Jones singled home a run in the top of the second inning to put the Lady Tigers up 1-0, then Harper Holeman delivered a two-run home run to center in the third to make it 3-0.

Graves got as close as 3-2 through four innings, but Caldwell answered with two runs in the fifth to regain its three-run advantage. Holeman singled home one run while the other scored on a wild pitch.

Graves scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to pull within 5-4, setting the stage for Cole’s two-run homer to win it in the seventh.

Cole actually homered twice in the contest. Her first round-tripper was a solo shot in the bottom of the fourth. She finished the day 2-for-3 with three runs batted in and three runs scored.

Cole was also the winning pitcher. She tossed the final three innings, allowing two unearned runs on two hits while striking out four and walking one.

Ginger Martin was 3-for-4 for Graves while Ellie Davis was 2-for-3 with a double.

For Caldwell, A.J. Hollowell was 3-for-4 and scored twice. Holeman went 2-for-3 and knocked in three.

Caldwell is now 13-10 while Graves is 10-11.

The Lady Tigers will be on the road again on Friday when they play their final 7th District game of the regular season at Hopkins County Central.
