While Thursday’s baseball game between Trigg County and Crittenden County had no magnitude in the district standings or placement in the postseason tournament, the Wildcats are hoping to use the 16-1 win as a springboard for the final two weeks of the season.

The Wildcats needed only three innings to hand Crittenden its worst loss in the series between the schools in a dozen years.

Trigg County rapped out six doubles, stole six bases, and scored in every inning to give interim coach Jay Breckel his first win as Wildcat skipper.

Six Wildcats – Matthew Leeper, Aiden Butts, Hunter Reynolds, Chase Hampton, Jacob Wease, and Jacob Hunter – each had two hits. Leeper and Hunter both had two doubles. Leeper leads the team with eight doubles and upped his season average to .415.

Wease and Hunter each drove in three runs for the Wildcats who tallied 15 hits.

Casey Cates had pair of singles for the Rockets, who dropped their third straight game after a four-game winning streak.

Aaron DeSpain needed only 44 pitches to even his season record at 3-3. He allowed four hits and struck out four in lowering his ERA to 3.02.

Crittenden County (10-10, 2-4) will be the No. 3 seed in the district tournament in Marion scheduled to begin on May 15. They will play Trigg County (9-13, 4-2) in the semifinals.

The Wildcats will close the season with four straight road games starting with a Monday trip to Hickman County in the first meeting between the schools in seven years.
