A trip to Owensboro Saturday saw some tough competition for the Christian County Lady Colonels in the Owensboro Catholic Classic. The Lady Tigers finished the day 0-2-1 with losses to Breckinridge County and Meade County, and a tie game with Central Hardin.

The opening game of the day for Christian County saw Breckinridge County break a 2-2 tie with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and then hold off a Christian County comeback attempt for a 4-3 win in six innings in a time limit game.

Christian County had taken a 2-0 lead in the first on a two-run single by Kaleigh Shaw. The Lady Tigers scored a run in the bottom of the first and another in the third to tie the game. Breck took the lead in the bottom of the fifth scoring a pair of runs on a pair of doubles.

In the sixth, Gracie Harned led off the inning with a single and then scored on a two-out triple from Jada Turner to cut the lead to 4-3. But that would be it as Breckinridge County pitcher Ashlyn White came up with a strikeout to end the game.

Saniya Shields finished 2-3 for Christian County with a double and a run scored. Kayleigh Shaw was 1-3 with two RBIs.

In the second game, the Lady Colonels were limited to just four hits, and miscues in the field turned out to be costly as Christian County fell to Meade County 9-0 in six innings.

The Green Wave scored six runs over the first three innings and then added three more runs in the top of the fifth. With the Lady Colonel errors, only four of Meade County’s nine runs were earned.

Avery Adcock had two of Christian County’s four hits in the game. Gracie Harned and Jada Turner had the other two.

The final game of the Lady Colonels’ day saw them battle to a 2-2 tie after six innings with the Central Hardin Lady Bruins, a team expected to contend for the 5th Region championship.

Central Hardin got on the board first with a pair of runs in the top of the third inning. A dropped third strike allowed the first run to score. The Lady Bruins followed that up three batters later with an RBI single.

The Lady Colonels got one of the runs back in the bottom half of the inning when Gracie Harned grounded into a fielder’s choice, allowing Saniya Shields to score, making it a 2-1 game.

Christian County tied the game in the bottom of the fifth. Karlee Crick doubled and then her courtesy runner, Brittan Joiner scored on a single by Gracie Harned.

For the game, Avery Adcock and Karlee Crick were each 2-3 at the plate. Gracie Harned was 1-3 with a pair of RBIs.

Jordan Turner went the distance in the circle, giving up two runs on four hits, striking out seven and walking just one.

With the day’s results, the Lady Colonels are now 15-12-2 on the year.
