Falcons Drop Pair at Ballard Memorial

The first game of the twin bill saw the Bombers build a 7-2 lead and then hold on for dear life as the Falcons closed to within one before falling 7-6. Fielding was a problem for both teams as each was charged with six errors in the contest.

The Falcons took the lead in the top of the third on an RBI double from William Lubas, who later scored on a single from Adam Harrington to make it 2-1.

Ballard pulled back in front in the bottom half of the inning with a trio of runs, the last coming on a Falcon error, to make it 4-2. Two more errors in the bottom of the fourth opened the door for the Bombers to extend the lead to 7-2.

The Fort Campbell rally began in the top of the 5th as a double from William Lubas cut the lead to 7-3. A single from Adam Harrington scored Lubas to make it 7-4. The Falcons then got an RBI single from Ethan Egner in the sixth to cut the lead to 7-5.

Fort Campbell would get a run in the top of the seventh when Jayden Swann stole home but the rally would end there as the Bombers held on for the one run win.

William Lubas had a big game for the Falcons going 2-4 with two doubles, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Adam Harrington was 2-4 with two RBIs. Ethan Eggner ended up 4-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Ethan Eggner pitched six innings for the Falcons, giving up seven runs, just three of them earned, on eight hits, striking out six and walking two.

The second game was all Ballard Memorial as the Bombers rolled to a 13-1 five-inning win.

Fort Campbell took a brief 1-0 lead in the top of the first in the nightcap. The run came on a sac fly from William Lubas.

The Bombers responded with two runs off a home run in the bottom half of the inning to go up 2-1. Ballard then dropped the hammer with five runs in the bottom of the second to take a 7-1 lead.

From there it turned out to be a matter of the final score as the Bombers scored six more runs in the bottom of the fourth to run the lead out to 13-1. Ballard Memorial outhit the Falcons 12-4 in the second game of the day. Fort Campbell’s four hits came from Aidan Blaszkowski, William Lubas, Adam Harrington, and Ryan Brewer.

William Lubas was tagged with the loss for the Falcons. He went two innings, giving up seven runs, only four of them earned, on seven hits, striking out three and walking none.

The two losses drop the Falcons to 5-20 on the season.
