It was a big day for Ava Pickett as the Caldwell County junior set a pair of school records at the Area 1 Championships Saturday in Paducah.
Pickett began her day with a third-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles. Her time of 50.51 shattered her former record of 53.40 set last month in Hopkinsville. Pickett owns the five fastest times for a Caldwell girls’ hurdler in the event.

Pickett, whose previous best was 4-4, could not complete her attempt at 5-2 due to an injury. She ended up finishing in second place in the event.
