Like many college athletes in the transfer portal these days, facilities are becoming a major recruiting tool to get new players on campus. And the same holds true for high school athletes.

Mac McCormick is one of them.

The Trigg County High School baseball senior signed to continue his academic and athletic career at Georgetown College Friday, citing the program’s prominence and on-campus facilities.

McCormick settled into a starter’s role in 2021 and responded with a .267 batting average. As a junior, he led the Wildcats in hits (34) and was second on the team with a .366 average. He had one home run and 19 RBI.

This year, McCormick is hitting .339 with five extra-base hits and 13 RBI.

McCormick is the second Trigg County catcher in the past five years to go on to college as the program has developed a strong group at the position over the past decade.

He will head off to a Georgetown program that is 29-22 and competing in the NAIA Tournament this week.

Georgetown has upgraded its on-campus facilities for several sports and has served as the training camp location for the Cincinnati Bengals and offers state-of-the-art athletic training facilities. McCormick said that was one of the selling points in his decision.
