Kentucky has only won one NCAA Tournament game in the last three years and not only got beat in the first round in 2022 but didn’t even make the tournament in 2021.

Kentucky coach John Calipari still believes UK can be a national championship contender annually despite the Cats’ latest NCAA problems. Recently he did an interview with college basketball broadcaster/reporter John Fanta and was asked if he felt pressure because of UK’s recent losses.

“No, not that way. The only pressure I have is what I put on myself,” Calipari said. “But I’ve done that every year and have looked at how I’m doing this job. I feel that.

“Two years ago, we were the fifth overall seed in the NCAA Tournament. This past year, we were pretty bad for a while, and by the end of the year we were a 5- or 6-seed. You have to put yourself in a position to go on a run.

“There are times when you make the game-winning shot and times where the other team makes it. We’ve felt both sides of it, but it’s about the big picture and to keep giving yourself a shot to go on that surge.

“We have to play positionless basketball and play a way I’m more comfortable coaching.”

  1. Cal cries positionless basketball, but there are only so many players that can play positionless basketball successfully and even then it depends on the competition. Cal always has more position players than positionless players because most aren’t positionless. There are very few players that can score against anyone else on the floor.
Positionless basketball sounds good but generally only works on paper.

  2. Positionless means being able to score and defend on all three levels. How many players are skilled enough to do so? Very few. A coach who can only successfully coach those players is not a "good" coach. If Calipari is saying that he is a fraud. Not a coach at all but a PTBarnum huckster.

  3. Riles said Bam would be a Heat Hall of famer ! Riles is the best GM/owner in the the biz – on on UK !

  4. As a Cal supporter I could less about his “comfort level” – only W’s coach –
    only W’s.
