Despite outhitting visiting Logan County 12-9 on Wednesday, the Christian County Colonels saw an eight-game winning streak come to an end with a 7-3 defeat to the Cougars.

Christian County slipped to 19-11 with trips to Marshall County on Thursday and Franklin-Simpson on Friday before opening the postseason on Monday with an 8th-District matchup with Fort Campbell.

The Colonels pushed runs across in their first and final at-bats, but it was all Cougars in between.  Leading 2-1, Logan County opened the top of the 4th with three straight singles and added a run on Samuel Hayes’ base hit to center field.  Chance Sweeney followed with an RBI double and starting pitcher Eddie Davis exited after hitting a batter to load the bases.

Preston Phan came on for the Colonels but couldn’t keep the Cougars from scoring on a passed ball and a sacrifice fly and taking a 6-1 advantage after four.

Phan pitched well, allowing a single hit over two innings before running into trouble in the top of the 7th.  Logan’s Davin Yates doubled and came home on Isaac Stanley’s double for a six-run lead.

The Colonels looked to rally in the bottom of the frame, putting runners on first and second on singles by Carter Sholar and Aiden Lewis.  Gage Montes drove them both in with a base hit but was caught in a rundown for the second out of the inning.  After a single by Phan, Logan’s Dayman McLean closed out a complete-game victory with a groundout.

McLean allowed three earned runs on 12 hits with a walk and three strikeouts.  Yates and Stanley led the Cougars with two hits and an RBI each, Montgomery Milam hit safely twice, and Hayes drove in two runs.

Davis took the loss after giving up six runs, three earned, on six hits with three walks and two strikeouts.  Phan worked the final three and two-thirds innings, allowing an earned run on three hits with a walk and a strikeout.

Lewis finished three for four at the plate, Phan had two hits and an RBI, and Sholar and Blake Boehman each finished with two hits.
