
Marshall County overcame a 3-1 deficit to defeat Caldwell County 5-3 in the Lady Tigers’ final home game on Thursday.
A three-run fifth inning was the difference as the Lady Marshals beat Caldwell’s girls for the second time this season.
The Lady Tigers (15-11) will end the season on Friday at Livingston Central before playing in the 7th District tournament on Monday at Hopkins County Central.
Chloe Coursey was 3-for-4 and drove in three runs for the Lady Marshals, who are now 16-14.
Coursey’s RBI single gave Marshall a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
But Caldwell countered with two runs in the bottom of the first on a two-run single by Presley McKinney with two outs.
The Lady Tigers went up 3-1 in the second when Laney Jones tripled into the right-field corner with one out. Courtesy runner Daelen Kizzee came in to score on a sacrifice bunt by A.J. Hollowell.
The score remained 3-1 until the fifth, when Marshall used four base hits, a walk and a hit batter to score three times. A two-run single by Coursey tied the game. Gracelynn Darnall singled home the go-ahead run to put the Lady Marshals up 4-3.
A walk and a pair of Caldwell errors helped Marshall add an insurance run in the top of the sixth to make it 5-3.
Allicen Harris (11-12) was the winning pitcher for Marshall, allowing just one earned run on seven hits. She struck out four and walked three.
Alexis Wood (12-8) suffered the loss for Caldwell. She surrendered four earned runs on eight base hits. Wood walked five and struck out one.
Brylee Butts was 2-for-2 with a double for Caldwell while Jones went 2-for-3 with the triple.
Darnall finished 2-for-4 for Marshall.
The Lady Marshals have taken the last four games against Caldwell. Marshall now leads all-time 13-11.
