The Calloway County Lady Lakers hit three home runs – two by Preslee Phillips – and handed Trigg County an 8-0 loss Thursday in Murray.

For Trigg County, it was its fourth shutout loss of the season and came after a seven-day gap in games. The result was five singles offensively, along with a walk and 10 strikeouts.

Calloway County on the other hand had played four games during that same seven-day stretch and looked sharp at the plate.

Emerson Grogan doubled home a run in the first inning and Jaylee McLeod followed with an RBI single in the second.

Phillips led off the fifth inning with her first homer, putting Calloway up 3-0. Two singles and a walk later, Carson McReynolds cleared the left field fence for her second home run of the season that was good for a 7-0 Calloway lead.

Phillips led off the sixth inning with her fourth homer of the season and Calloway’s third of the game. She finished the game 3-for-4 as part of Calloway’s 13-hit attack.

Trigg County put runners in scoring position in the third and fifth innings but couldn’t produce a two-out hit.

The Lady Wildcats (12-14) are scheduled to host Madisonville Friday before starting district play Monday against Lyon County in Marion.
