
A solid second day at the KHSAA state bass fishing tournament nearly snagged a Top 10 finish for Trigg County’s duo of Mitchell Green and Christian Jones. The pair ended the event in 11th place after catching nine fish for 19 pounds and 4 ounces Saturday on Kentucky Lake. Their haul was the seventh-best in Trigg’s state tournament history.
The pair caught five fish Saturday with a total weight of ten pounds and four ounces. The catch vaulted Green and Jones from 27th place all the way up to 11th place. The final fish was caught by Green with less than five minutes left in their round.
The duo caught five fish Friday but one died between it leaving the boat well and the scales. Fishing rules state a fish must be alive to be weighed and counted.
Green and Jones teamed to finish 28th at the state tournament in 2021 with a total catch of 18 pounds, 9 ounces.
It was the best finish for a Trigg County team at state in four years.
Dade Vincent and Brock Vincent, of Muhlenberg County, took home the state championship with a total weight of 34 pounds 11 ounces.
Camden Baker and Harley Valerius of McCracken County finished second with 26 pounds 14 ounces.
