Alexis Wood fired a no-hitter and struck out 11 to lead Caldwell County past Hopkins County Central 10-0 Monday night in the 7th District softball semifinals in Mortons Gap.

Hopkins Central only had four runners reach base in the six-inning contest.

The Lady Tigers, now 16-11, will face Madisonville-North Hopkins in Tuesday’s 6 p.m. district championship game. The Lady Maroons (25-6) routed Dawson Springs 16-1 in Monday’s first semifinal game.

Caldwell’s girls pulled away late to finish off Hopkins Central, scoring five times in the fifth inning and three times in the sixth to end the game on the 10-run mercy rule.

Adley Lewis drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to left in the bottom of the first to put Caldwell up 1-0.

Lewis singled home a run in the third to make it 2-0.

In the fifth, Lewis had another sacrifice fly while Alicia Stanley doubled home a run. Brylee Butts drove in a run with a triple while Presley McKinney and Wood each had RBI singles to extend the margin to 7-0.

In the sixth, an error, a wild pitch and a bases-loaded walk by Kenzie McConnell helped Caldwell score three times to end the game.

A.J. Hollowell was 3-for-3 at the plate and scored four times for the Lady Tigers while Lewis was 1-for-2 and drove in four.

Wood (13-8) needed just 70 pitches — 51 strikes — as Caldwell defeated Hopkins Central for the 17th straight time.

The Lady Storm (3-25) had two runners reach base on errors while two more were hit by pitches.

Caldwell and Madisonville have not just reached the district championship game, but have also earned a berth in the 2nd Region tournament as well.
