Lyon County met little resistance in returning to the 5th District baseball championship game for a fourth straight year Monday as they pounded Livingston Central 11-1 in five innings.
The Lyons (19-9) will meet Trigg County Tuesday in a rematch of last year’s title game won by the Lyons 12-0.
John Bingham got the job done both on the mound and at the plate. The Lyon County sophomore had three hits, including a triple, and limited Livingston to two hits over five innings and struck out four.
The Lyons had 12 hits in the contest and stole eight bases – three by Bingham.
Brady Belt tripled home Aiden Waters (single) and scored on Turner Hurst’s single in the second inning for a 3-0 lead. Austin Spears upped the advantage to 4-0 with an RBI single.
Lyon County put the game out of reach with a six-run fourth inning. Belt and Hurst each had a pair of hits and Spears walked three times from the leadoff spot.
Livingston Central (6-17) got on the board in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Luke Vinson.
Monday’s win was Lyon County’s 23 straight district victory and gave Ricky Baker his 100th win as Lyon County head coach. The Lyons on Monday will look to become the first school to win four straight district titles since Trigg County in 2013-16.
