Blair Green never had a chance to fully participate in the Mountain Laurel Festival in Pineville growing up because she always seemed to have a basketball conflict.
However, the former Harlan County/University of Kentucky basketball standout will be fully immersed in this year’s festival since the grand marshals for the parade May 26 will be Green and her fiancé CJ Fredrick.
“A couple of months ago I was asked if we would be interested in doing this,” said Green. “It’s going to be a fun opportunity. This festival is a huge deal in Pineville and something that everyone looks forward to.
“It’s quite an honor to be asked to do this. I am excited to show CJ what the Mountain Laurel Festival is all about. I think you have to go to fully appreciate it. The princess and queen crowning are cool experiences to see. It’s just a cool weekend for the community and they start planning this stuff way in advance.”
Fredrick played the last two seasons for coach John Calipari. He’s transferring to Cincinnati for his final season and Green will also be moving soon to Cincinnati. She’s been busy “networking and connecting” with different opportunities since her season ended.
“I have a couple of things coming up that are going to be fun. So I have some things in the works,” Green said. “I hope I can get the right opportunity in the business world. I am talking about some sales opportunities.”
Green averaged 7.8 points and 2.5 rebounds per game last season after missing the 2021-22 season with an Achilles tendon injury.
