It’s a region three-peat for the Caldwell County Tiger tennis team.

Ryan Hammett secured Caldwell’s third-straight regional team championship in dramatic fashion Thursday in Henderson, defeating No. 2 seed Mason Bridgeman of Henderson County 6-1, 4-6, 10-6.

That gave Hammett his second-straight singles title and guaranteed the Tigers the team title.

It also gave Caldwell a sweep of the boys’ regional brackets, with Grayden Miller and Nick Adams claiming the doubles competition on Wednesday.

Hammett pulled off the same feat a year ago in Hopkinsville. Needing a win in the finals to assure the team championship, Hammett defeated Nathaniel Crick of Madisonville-North Hopkins 2-6, 6-4, 10-6.

Thursday against Bridgeman, Hammett fell behind 4-2 and 5-3 in the tiebreaker before taking seven of the last eight points.

Hammett, along with Miller and Adams, will play in the KHSAA State Tennis Championships, which are set for May 30-June 1 in Lexington.
