Colt Babb knew hard work was necessary to get on the soccer field for Caldwell County. And he realized that hard work would keep him on the field and create opportunities after high school.
Babb realized the fruits of his hard work Wednesday when he signed his letter to play soccer at Brescia University in Owensboro.
“There was a huge transition from previous seasons to this season. There’s a lot more dedication, a lot more work ethic,” said Caldwell County coach Tanner Reed. “I go back and look at him as a freshman whenever I had him, his results didn’t happen overnight. It took time and hours of dedication to his craft for him to get to the level that he wanted to get to.”
Babb became a versatile player with two goals and four assists for the Tigers in 2022. Two years ago, he was part of Caldwell County’s historic season that saw the Tigers reach the region championship match for the first time in program history.
Reed said Babb’s transformation on the field extended to the mental side.
“We had a lot of conversations about the mental side of the game. I hope we continue to have those conversations and he’ll continue to reach out to me throughout the summer and his career because that’s how a good player becomes a great player,” said Reed.
“They take the time and dedication to look at what they’re good at, look at what they’re not so great at, and figure out what it is. But the transformation with Colt this season was a player that had the willingness to win, desire to put in the extra work, and first of all, a desire to care about and do things for and with his teammates.”
Brescia is an NAIA school that competes in the River States Conference. The Bearcats were 6-11-1 last year and advanced to the conference tournament’s quarterfinals.
