
DeAijah Tullis had quite the day Tuesday at the Class 3A Region 1 track and field meet at Marshall County High School.
The Hopkinsville High sophomore won two events and finished second in two others – qualifying for the state meet in all four.
She won the high jump (5 feet) and the triple jump, with a distance of 34 feet, 7.5 inches. Her distance in the triple jump was third best in school history and just three inches off Yogi McKnight’s record set in 2019.
She finished in second place in both hurdle events. She ran 16.31 in the 100 meters and clocked 51.24 in the 300 meters.
As a team, Hopkinsville finished in seventh place with 44 points.
The top two finishers at the region automatically advance to the state meet, while the following ten best times/distances statewide also advance.
SPRINTS
Grace Cansler finished in fifth place in the 400-meter dash (1:02.75). In the 200-meter dash, Cansler was eighth with a time of 28.31 seconds.
Anarria Settles was ninth in the 400-meter dash (1:07.79).
Janiyah Rhodes finished in ninth place in the 100-meter dash (13.63) and Arniya Brown was 17th (14.27). Rhodes also finished in 15th place in the 200 meters (29.39).
MIDDLE DISTANCE
Lauren Mayes finished in sixth place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:44.13. She was 11th in the 1600-meter run (6:32.32).
RELAYS
The 3200-meter relay team had the best finish of the day, coming in fourth place with a time of 11:12.83.
The 1600-meter relay team was sixth (4:35.84).
The 800-meter relay team finished in seventh place (1:56.42).
The 400-meter relay team was eighth in 55.70 seconds.
FIELD EVENTS
Kaylyn Lynch finished in 15th place in the long jump (12-04) and Antavia Shemwell was 17th (11-05.50). Lynch also finished in 12th place in the triple jump (25-01.50).
Alexandra Williams finished 10th in the shot put (28-3) and TaLaijha Cherry was 15th (24-10.50). Williams also finished in 14th in the discus throw (73-11) with Cherry 18th (50-1).
Lynch was 15th in the long jump at 12-4 and Shemwell was 17th in the long jump (11-5.50).
