One head basketball coaching vacancy at Caldwell County High School has been filled, with that creating a new hoops vacancy at the school. School officials announced Tuesday morning that Lady Tiger head coach Chuck Mitchell had been selected to take over the Tiger basketball program.
Mitchell has been serving as the head coach for the Lady Tigers for the past four seasons, where his teams compiled a 44-66 record. His first team at Caldwell County went 16-15 and reached the 2nd Region tournament.
Mitchell has extensive experience in the coaching ranks at both the high school and college levels. He was an assistant boys’ coach at Rowan County when that school went to the state tournament and had a lengthy run as girls’ head coach at Harlan, taking the Lady Dragons to two All A Classic state tourneys.
Mitchell, who is originally from Louisa, also coached briefly at Livingston Central. He was girls’ head coach at that school in the 2010-11 season.
Mitchell was an assistant coach with the Paducah Tilghman Lady Tornado for three seasons prior to his arrival at Caldwell County.
