With the start of the season less than 48 hours away, the Ohio Valley League announced the relocation of the Owensboro RiverDawgs. League officials announced early Wednesday afternoon that Owensboro would be moving to Georgetown for the 2023 season.

The announcement came after the RiverDawgs lost their home field location over the weekend, with that announcement prompting an emergency Zoom meeting of league officials.

As a result, the Louisville Slugger Hitting Science Center is stepping in to absorb the team, relocating their games to Georgetown College. Officials told YourSportsEdge.Com that the Louisville OVL team would also be playing its games at Georgetown in 2023 after also dealing with a last-minute field availability issue.

OVL officials stated “The RiverDawgs team’s decision to opt out of the 2023 season was not taken lightly, but it was deemed necessary due to circumstances beyond their control. Their field loss has presented significant challenges that cannot be overcome in time for the upcoming season.”

A statement from the league went on to note “By absorbing the Owensboro RiverDawgs, the center will not only preserve the league’s legacy but also bring its expertise and resources to enhance the players’ experience further.”

For the Hoptown Hoppers, team officials say the Hoppers will play a doubleheader against Owensboro and the Louisville Jockeys when they make the trip to Georgetown.

The decision by the Louisville Slugger Hitting Science Center is a big one for the player affected by the RiverDawgs decision not to play in Owensboro for the 2023 season as most of those players would have faced a very difficult ime finding a new summer league team this late in the year.
