Stellar Careers of Trigg Track Stars Cavanaugh and Thomas Come To a Close at State

The outstanding careers of two Trigg County High School athletes came to a close at Friday’s Clark Pump-n-Shop Class 2A State Track and Field Meet in Lexington.

Austin Cavanaugh finished in 13th place in the 800-meter run in 2:05.75. His time of 2:05.26 at the region meet was sixth fastest in school history while his state meet time was seventh best.

The 3200-meter relay team of Austin Cavanaugh, Brody Renfroe, David Cavanaugh, and Matthew Reeves finished in 13th place in 8:46.51. The time was seventh best in school history. The record of 8L27.97 was set the at 1997 state meet.

Austin Cavanaugh, Matthew Reeves, Carter Shepherd, and Marlee Reeves teamed to finish 20th in the 800-meter relay in 1:38.08.

Cavanaugh, who is also an all-state cross country runner, has signed with Murray State University.

Meanwhile, Alliyah Thomas finished in 10th place in the 100-meter hurdles in 16.73 seconds and was 14th in the 300-meter hurdles in 50.19 seconds. In her third event of the day, Thomas ran a 27.17 in the 200-meter dash to place 12th.

Thomas, who has signed with Spalding University in Louisville, began running hurdles for the first time this season. She ends her high school career with the four fastest times in the 100-meter hurdles with her time of 16.41 seconds the new standard for Lady Wildcat hurdlers.

Trigg County had one other individual qualifier for the state meet. Matthew Reeves tied for 19th in the high jump at 5 feet, 8 inches.
