Trigg County High School has turned to a former player and head coach of its feeder program to be its next head baseball coach.
Will Alexander was named the Wildcats’ head coach Friday. Alexander is a 2017 TCHS graduate and served as head coach of the middle school team for the past two seasons.
“Will has shown excellent leadership of our student-athletes in our middle school program. He has a true love for our baseball program, and I look forward to the future. He truly represents the Wildcat Way,” said TCHS Athletic Director Matthew Wilder.
Alexander played for Trigg County during its four-year run as district champions from 2013-16. His head coach was current TCHS principal Tim Bush.
“We are excited to have Will join our staff. It is gratifying as the former head coach to have former players who want to give back to a program that means so much to me,” Bush said in a release announcing Alexander as the head coach.
The head coaching job will be Alexander’s first at the varsity level.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to lead the baseball program that is so close to my heart. This program and school helped make me who I am today. I am beyond blessed to be able and give back to our community,” Alexander said.
Alexander replaces Taylor Follis, who was released from his duties as Wildcat head coach in May after a 21-31 record. No reason was given by the school. Follis was arrested in Trigg County two weeks later on a fourth-degree assault charge stemming from a domestic violence complaint.
Jay Breckel served as interim coach of the Wildcats for the team’s final six games, posting a 3-3 record. Trigg County loses 10 seniors from that team that was 11-15 overall and lost to Madisonville in the first round of the region tournament. Trigg County has never won a region baseball title and its last win in the region tournament came in 2018.
