Rhythm Rallies Past Hoppers in 10 Innings

First-place Full Count rallied not just once, but twice to thwart the Hoptown Hoppers Tuesday night.

The Rhythm scored once in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game, then pushed across two runs in the 10th to walk off a 5-4 win over Hoptown in Ohio Valley League action in Hendersonville, Tennessee.

Hoptown (8-12) scored three times in the top of the seventh inning to go up 3-2 in its bid to narrow a five-game deficit in the OVL South standings.

Luis Vergara doubled home the Hoppers’ first run of the game. Chase Cummings tied the game with an RBI grounder to second. The go-ahead run scored when Reid Douglas grounded into a double play to give Hoptown a 3-2 lead.

But Full Count (14-6) tied the game in the ninth, getting a leadoff double from Drew Robertson, then an RBI single on a liner into center by Trey Miller.

Hoptown went back up 4-3 in the 10th when Douglas stole third and came in on an error after being placed at second base to start the inning on the tiebreaker rule.

Full Count used three straight walks to start the bottom of the 10th to score Henry Jackson, who started the inning at second base. A wild pitch allowed the winning run to cross the plate with one out, giving the Rhythm its 5-4 triumph.

Jack Thompson was the winning pitcher for Full Count. The third pitcher of the night for the Rhythm, Thompson tossed the 10th inning without giving up a hit and striking out three.

Levi Perrell was 2-for-3 at the plate for Full Count, which outhit Hoptown 6-4.

Vergara went 2-for-4 for the Hoppers.

The teams will meet again Wednesday night, this time at Christian County High School.
