DJ Wagner certainly aced his first Kentucky press conference.

The highly-touted freshman guard is being counted on by many UK fans as the player who can get the Cats back to a Final Four for the first time since 2015 with his playmaking and versatile skill set.

But Wagner is not worried about that pressure being on him.

“I never even look at it as pressure,” Wagner said Wednesday. “I’m just having fun out there, just doing something I love to do.”

Maybe that’s why he is not worried about where coach John Calipari will play him. He’s a natural point guard but so is freshman teammate Rob Dillingham. He knows no matter where he plays, he’ll have his opportunities to make plays.

“Whatever coach, whatever my team needs me to do, that’s what position I’m gonna play,” Wagner said. “I feel like that’s how it is for all of us. It ain’t really a specific position that anybody is gonna play.

“We’re all gonna just try to play different roles to the best of our abilities.”

The bottom line for Wagner is winning.

“We all just love to win and we all love to play basketball so I feel like we all want to do what we need to do to win,” Wagner said. “We all like to share the ball, like each other’s games, and like to play as a team.

“We all want to see each other happy and being successful. So it ain’t really no one ball, one person wanting to shoot all the shots, not like that. That’s not what it is.”
