
The Hoptown Hoppers walked off a win over the Bowling Green Pistons Thursday night after overcoming a 9-5 deficit.
With the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the ninth inning, Carter Hood was plunked by a pitch. That allowed Sam Perkins, who had doubled to start the rally, to stroll in with the game-winning run from third base as the Hoppers turned back the Pistons 12-11 in Ohio Valley League action.
That capped a back-and-forth contest that saw Hoptown score twice in each of the fourth and sixth innings to tie the game at 9-9.
The Hoppers went up 11-9 in the seventh, but the Pistons drew even with a pair of runs in the top of the eighth.
Luis Vergara was 3-for-5 for Hoptown, which outhit visiting Bowling Green 13-9.
Robert Estrada finished 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in the fourth inning and three RBIs. Tate VanHooser was 2-for-5 and knocked in two while Stephen Bell also went 2-for-5 at the dish. Perkins went 2-for-4 and scored three times.
Cannon Anthony, the last of six Hoptown hurlers, picked up the win on the mound after shutting out Bowling Green in the top of the ninth inning. He struck out two and did not give up a base hit.
Hoptown is now 11-15. The Hoppers sit in fifth place in the OVL South standings, 7.5 games behind the first-place Full Count Rhythm.
Bowling Green is 7-18 and nine games back in the South.
The Hoppers visit the Fulton Railroaders on Friday.

Kudos to whoever took this photo. It would not surprise me if it was Todd as he took thousands of Great ones for the times leader newspaper. This is an awarding winning photo. No one has any idea how hard it it to be in the right place at right time and ability to capture this play.
