Volleyball coaches will get an early measuring stick on their teams this weekend at the Bluegrass State Games in Lexington.

The three-day affair begins with pool play Friday and Saturday and then a bracketed tournament on Sunday at various locations in Lexington. The games do not count toward a school’s preseason scrimmage limit.

University Heights returns most of its team intact from last year’s 26-13 squad that advanced to the region semifinals. The Lady Blazers will begin pool play Friday against Male (12-16) at 1:00 ET and Oldham County (13-16) at 2:00. Their pool play games will be at Lexington Christian High School.

Caldwell County finished 13-19 last year and fell to UHA in the first round of the region tournament. The Lady Tigers will play pool play games at Frederick Douglass High School against Cooper (23-8) at 1:00 and Madison Central (26-11) at 2:00.

Christian County (11-24) will also play pool games at Frederick Douglass. First-year coach Samantha Self will see her Lady Colonels play Graves County (19-19) at 1:00 and Raceland (27-11) at 3:00.

Heritage Christian Academy (35-7) capped its Kentucky Christian Athletic Association run with consecutive state titles. They are a full-time member of the Kentucky High School Athletic Association in 2023-24. They will play their pool play games at Lexington Christian Friday.

The Lady Warriors open with Collins (23-14) at 4:00 and play Pikeville (17-12) at 5:00.

Hopkinsville (3-24) also plays its pool play schedule at Lexington Christian. The Lady Tigers will play Ohio County (28-7) at 5:00 and Campbell County (10-16) at 6:00.

The high school volleyball season begins regular season play on August 14.
